Gesto

ASL Alphabet Recognition

Last updated: [Month Day, Year]

Overview

Gesto is an app that recognizes American Sign Language (ASL) fingerspelling using your device's camera. This page explains what data Gesto accesses, how it's used, and what happens to it.

In short: Gesto uses your camera to detect hand gestures in real time, entirely on your device. No images, video, or hand-tracking data are ever stored, transmitted, uploaded, or shared with anyone — including us.

Camera access

Gesto requests access to your device's camera solely to detect hand landmarks and recognize ASL letters as you sign them. This processing happens entirely on your device using an on-device machine learning model.

Data collection

Gesto does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Specifically, Gesto does not:

Permissions

The only permission Gesto requests is camera access, used exclusively for real-time gesture detection as described above. Gesto does not request access to your contacts, location, storage, microphone, or any other device data.

Children's privacy

Gesto does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information from anyone at all. The app can be used by learners of any age as an ASL practice tool.

Changes to this policy

If Gesto's data practices ever change (for example, if a future version adds an optional feature that involves data collection), this page will be updated accordingly, with the "Last updated" date above reflecting the change.
